Conscious Fashion Tech News & Events in NYC | 9.17.18 - 10.27.18 | Balanced Fashion Clothing Swap + Panel

Dear Friend,

The ultimate goal of the Balanced Fashion Agency is to create a more conscious fashion industry. This month, while NY fashion week coverage takes over Instagram feeds and industry conversations, I reflect on the nature of these cycles. If we want the change to happen, the action needs to come within - so I am now consciously less and less actively involved in the fashion events and activities during the fashion week season. I also haven't bought anything new since May 2018 and reused + repurposed my old clothes for last month's Burning Man experience (you can follow my reflections from the Burn on my Instagram page). According to True Cost movie from 2015, the average American generates 82 pounds of textile waste each year. We as customers and industry professionals can slow this rhythm of over production / consumption more than we think. if we make conscious choices together, with the same vision in mind - we will see the changes in the industry faster than we may imagine. There’s a power in the synergy and conversations of Balanced Fashion is set to foster.

On September 27th we are kicking off our first Clothing Swapping event and partnering with swap events experts at Global Fashion Exchange to make it a seamless experience for everyone. Clothing swaps are intended to provide our community with a chance to reduce the amount of underutilized items in their life and replace with those with a chance higher use and utilization.

On the evening of 27th, we will host a panel discussion with influencers in the sustainable space in NYC focused on conscious consumption. Panelists will include Patrick Duffy, Founder of Global Fashion Exchange, Lan Vy Wynn, Founder of Fashion 4 Freedom and Tara St James, Founder of Study NY.

For those who would like to participate in the clothing swap, bring 3-5 of your gently worn, clean items to the panel on Thursday night, Sept. 27th and return for the swapping day, Saturday, Sept. 29h between 2pm and 5pm. If you can’t contribute your garments on Thursday, please arrive a half an hour before the swap is open so that we can merchandise your items.

RSVP for the event and swap here and use balancedfashionswap5off code for $5 off discount for our newsletter subscribers.
