Fashion Tech News, Start Up Events & a Note on Mindfulness | 6/6 - 6/22

Dear Friend,

No surprise that the first episode of the 3rd season of Invisibilia podcast did not disappoint. It focused on a very near and dear to my heart topic: emotions ðŸ˜„😂😖😢. I've always been very emotional person and it's been very difficult for me to suppress them in certain situations. It was facinating to hear about the way emotions are generated and why we should not hide them, instead appreciate their existence and really notice what caused them. In this interview and in the podcast episode mentioned above, Lisa Feldman Barrett, a professor of psychology and a researcher says that "emotions aren't happening to you. Your brain makes them as you need them. You are the architect of your own experience. It's just that most of this is happening outside of your awareness... we can invest effort in the present to cultivate new experiences for future use in prediction.. a horizon of control over your own experience is much broader than you might think." It's so powerful to realize that we are able to control what emotions we get to experience at any given moment. The key is to be aware of each emotion that is being generated by our brain. If it's negative - try to understand what caused it and let it pass without holding on to it for too long. A two minute meditation break helps me practice letting negative emotions pass. If an emotion is positive - embrace and fully experience it, get to know which thoughts triggered it and eventually we will be able to cultivate more positive emotions in our lives. And then, no doubt, great things will keep happening and new exciting opportunities will keep uncovering to us.

On this positive note - to the newsletter...
